markybobAzar, it does what it looks like it takes. it adds the kernel-image-2.6* packages to aptitude unmarkauto
davidb___lemur: sounds good. i selected the "standard system" only. hopefully this'll work good.
markybobs/takes/does
Azar..interesting thing it says that the dist-upgrade to Etch will come with a new upgraded kernel... never heard of this before
users of the 2.6 kernel wishing to test the kernel upgrade first should be advised to do the upgrade before this (as they might get the new kernel in this step) they will need to upgrade coreutils and udev before their upgrades; however, in some cases upgrading the kernel may result in an unacceptable number of packages being removed..
markybob: I will see but I have a strange feeling that unmarkauto will not work, as it did not worked on my other box when I dist-upgraded to Etch
markybobAzar, you should file a bug report if it doesnt work
HeetWhy is the testing dvd bigger than 2^32 bytes ?
ehccan i make symlink with a name different than the dir it points to?
markybobehc yes
ehcln -s <to> <from> is what i have been using
markybobehc, ln -s /home/ehc/original /home/ehc/fooliowhatever
Azarmarkybob: it was a situation when a security upgrade for xfree86 will fool aptitude into believing that xfree86 is "obsolete/not used". I tried to use "unmarkauto" with aptitude but did not work. So I filed a bug report and Daniel Burrows guided me through logs and fixed it. But not the unmarkauto thing.
ehcmarkybob, oh so just append it to the <from>?
chronic1does most everyone's computer hang on the insmod sr_mod
HeetHow am I supposed to download a dvd bigger than 2^32 bytes ? I only get a 300M file.
torrrranyone knows libpam-pwdfile?
abrotmanwhich directory ?
chronic1it doesn't freeze....just takes forever to get past the disc detection
markybobehc, i dont understand what you mean, but my example will work.
blenna_unixwhat is the difference w/ vmware server & player?
ehcmarkybob, okay never mind.
markyboband why are we talking about dvd sizes in bytes?
blenna_unix, with player you cant make new virtual machines, basically
abrotmanblenna_unix: ask #vmware
markyboband workstation has more features than server, such as file sharing between host/guest, etc.
DewiHeet: modern unix filesystems support files about 2^32 bytes. if you're using fat32 you're out of luck
Heet: but whether your choice of file transfer protocol handles it, depends on what you're using
Heet: s/about/above/
torrrranyone knows libpam-pwdfile?
HeetI have the dvd burner in my xp computer so i started the download from there. Ok thanx I try on this pc, then try to send it to my xp pc.
Dewitorrrr: I do now, you just told me
ehcif i want the link to move me to another location when i cd to it should i use a symlink or a hard link?
Dewiehc: symlink is enough for that
blenna_unixmarkybob: how will workstation share files b/w a linux box and a guest windows os?
torrrri need to find out why my pwd file don't work with libpam-pwdfile Dewi
Dewitorrrr: explain how it is failing and somebody might be able to help you
markybobblenna_unix, you add access for it in vmware. vmware uses a samba-like thing internally to give you network access to your host
Dewiblenna_unix: or you might find it simpler just to use samba itself (I do)
blenna_unix: actually it's probably less simple and slower. But still often I just use samba
