mfrischphorce1: and I though you were bragging
cheeseboyhow do i install my kernel's source?
jstevensMmm, that's odd. There isn't a 1680x1200 in my mode line in xorg.conf, yet xdpyinfo claims my screen dimensions are 1680x1200. The mode line in xorg.conf is set to 1680x1050 -- the native resolution of the LCD panel.
Crypticfortun1jstevens: what video card/chipset?
Guerinjstevens: it'll try to match things it thinks will work
jstevensMatrox G400
Guerina bit stupid that way
cheeseboyanyone?
phorce1mfrisch: Sparc Ultra2. Still need to figure out what's wrong with the AXMP box that has 4 CPUs and 4G of RAM
abrotmanit's possible your card doesn't support that resolution
jstevensIt's certainly possible.
In fact quite probable.
mfrischphorce1: thats better sparcs are ok.
cheeseboyhow do i install my kernel's source?
GuerinCrypticfortun1: aptitude search linux-source
cheeseboy:
Crypticfortun1jstevens: i had similar problem using an intel Q965 with my dell lcd. the lcd was reporting wrong sync frequencies, and xorg was believing the monitor over my settings. rumor has it there's a setting to override that, but i never found it, and when my nvidia card got here, problem solved itself...
streunerGuerin: that seems to be a bot
phorce1mfrisch: I'm dist-upgrading them all to Etch now. Need to tar up "/" on this one and pull the 18G drive to replace it with a 36G drive when it's done
streunerGuerin: cheeseboy asked that the whole day before...
mfrischphorce1: so you gonna take over the world with these bad boys?
jstevensYeah, I do have a newer Matrox chipset around here somewhere. I'll have to do some google searching regarding the supported video modes of the mga driver and the G400.
cheeseboystreuner was headers before =P
phorce1mfrisch: They're my test and play boxes. I want the AXMP running to put my personal mail server and archives of a couple of lists (using lurker) on. The Ultra2 will have to do for now.
mfrischphorce1: cool. I like mailscanner on mine.
scruffyany particular reason the debian sarge installer chose kernel-image-2.4.27-speakup (contains screen reader) for an install on a ThinkPad 600? I'm not visually impaired, so I thought I'd ask if there may be some other reason.
Crypticfortun1jstevens: there's a program 915resolution for the i810 driver to manually change the supported modes reported by the intel graphics chipsets. there might be a similar thing for the matrox stuff...
cheeseboystreuner you think im a bot?
phorce1mfrisch: Depending on my final needs I'll probably load up spamassassin and some front end for the mail server.
streuneryes, if someone repeats a question more than 10 times, i think something is wrong
mfrischphorce1: I like to seperate the processes so my mail server isn't loaded.
maddash2.6.20.4!
jstevensCrypticfortun1: OK, I think I'm finding what I need. The possibility of of the card not supporting the resolution didn't really seem reasonable to me at first because X wasn't throwing an error. I'm poking around in the right places now though as I think that's the issue.
mfrischstreuner: he could be slow.
phorce1mfrisch: just moving the distro up for now. By the time it finishes I'll be tired of looking at it. ;-)
mfrischphorce1: have fun ;-)
rock_fenghi all, I setup two IP addresses on eth1: eth1-192.168.0.15,eth1:0-192.168.0.18,but I can't ping 192.168.0.18
phorce1mfrisch: I'm sitting at work on a WinXP machine with now windows open except a bunch of Putty SSH terminals to my various Debian machines
mfrischphorce1: been there. ubuntu works on some "workstations"
phorce1(and a Firefox Google search to try to find out how to set up a DynDNS type server)
