x3n0is there a way of creating a swap file at the end of my ext3 file sys?
xssahow can I create a file.tar.gz file
tarzeaux3n0: not really, no
enoufx3n0: yes .. but why?
tarzeauxssa: tar cvf file.tar.gz dir
enouf: how?
enouftarzeau: you dd a file
xerophyte_if you put fallback 1 in the menu.lst will that boot with kernel 1 if the kernel 0 panic ?
x3n0i have a bastardised install of knoppix upgraded to sid...
tarzeauenouf: to where?
enouf: but you can't say where on the filesystem it is
enouftarzeau: wherever you like ;-)
tarzeauenouf: that'll break your filesystem. it's a swapfile he wants
enoufx3n0: ask #knoppix please
x3n0install didn't give the option to create a swap then so i really need to now
enouftarzeau: I know, I've done it before .. lemme check something
tarzeaux3n0: you can just create a swap file. don't bother where it is
enouf: don't bother, he's not got debian
enouftarzeau: I can see that ;-) .. my info would be for our discussion ;-)
x3n0i haven'ix either like i said it is a bastardised sys
vickersnenouf: no the problem is simply that there's nothing in those directories, which is what the pwmconfig script tests for. I'm guessing that the loaded modules are supposed to put something there
enouf: lsmod = vt1211, hwmon_vid, i2c_viapro, i2c_isa
x3n0i haven't got knoppix either! like i said it is a bastardised system!

xixorhey everyone, I am trying to pass acpi=off to the kernel, so I edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, and then run update-grub. After running update-grub, and looking at the menu.lst file, the option I added acpi=off, is there a different mechanism for passing options to the kernel?
tarzeaux3n0: but it's not debian is it? what says /etc/apt/sources.list ?
x3n0tarzeau: how can i do this and can it be done on a live sys?
scx!kiss daddy
actiondpkg smooches daddy on the neck
dpkgsmooches daddy on the neck
tarzeaux3n0: yes sure, using mkswap and swapon
x3n0: heck there's even something automatic like dphys-swapfile in debian
enouftarzeau: x3n0 : if you care for a story/saga .. there's some decent info here http://tinyurl.com/24pppn
