toratonThen I found the light that is debian
Guerini ran gentoo for a while, after debian
it pained me
piper69Gnea: apt-get install linux-image-2.6 , should i change linux-image by something
madd_mattI'm in the same boat.
concept10theres no other life than with using apt-get
enoufpiper69: add -686 on the end so 2.6-686 .. IIRC .. IF you have a pentium Pro or better and NOT a k6/k6-2
concept10im about to apt-get me something to eat and after that apt-cache search my desk for some cigs
danf_1979heh, does openssh-server installs a startup script in /etc/init.d ?
I rebooted :/
Gneapiper69: apt-cache search linux-image <-- should show you what's available
gotta go, later
markybobdanf_1979, yes. /etc/init.d/ssh
concept10Does Sarge reliably upgrade from Woody? That's the only disk I have around and no cd/dvd burner
piper69enouf: E: Couldn't find package linux-image-2.6-686
enoufpiper69: it;'s called kernel-image
Guerinpiper69: /msg dpkg search
markybob!woody->sarge
dpkgFirst, "apt-get install aptitude". Then edit /etc/apt/sources.list, changing all non-local mentions of "woody" to "sarge". Then, "aptitude update && aptitude dist-upgrade". consider installing hotplug and discover1 if you're not confident with linux hardware management. see <sarge release notes>, or serious breakage for around 30% of users according to http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00006.html
enoufpiper69: Only for Sarge kernel images .. it changed to linux-image in Etch
piper69: dpkg should've told you that
!sarge upgrade kernel
dpkgTo install Linux 2.6 in Sarge, run # apt-get install kernel-image-2.6-$ARCH; but replace $ARCH with one of {386,686,k7,ppc,etc...} for your specific CPU. If you don't know which arch is correct, ask me about <386> or <k7> etc. If you use grub, make sure that you have "postinst_hook = /sbin/update-grub" and "postrm_hook = /sbin/update-grub" in /etc/kernel-img.conf. This does not *upgrade* Linux, it keeps Linux 2.4.
enoufpiper69: ^^^
I know 'less' is not installed as default ('more' is) ..Can anyone tell me if gzip is as default base? I'm trying to ascertain if zless is always available (and bzless form pkg bzip2) without need for installing it ..
harkzless is iirc
enoufs/form/from
thanks hark
Gueringzip is since it's needed for .deb files
enoufGuerin: right ..ok , thanks ..
vickHello.
Most of the times there are wireless network and it doesn't get detect in linux. I've tried wifi-radar and kwifimanager. The interface seem to be there when i do ifconfig -a. When i try to press on "scan for wireless network" button, it takes short time, i doubt it's even scanning. Anybody know why might this be happening ?
Using Debian "testing"
Guerinvick: never use gui tools
vick: use iwconfig and friends
vickGuerin, They tell little
heh.
justinvick: does iwlist scan work?
vickjustin, Told me all interfaces doesn't support scanning
