abrotmanDewi: not me :)
Dewiabrotman: aah well, some other regular with a sense of humour then. Maybe rahul. :P
Guerinit ain't meee, babe, aww, naw, naaw
rfrankme neither
DewiI could grep my logs, but I think I've procrastinated about enough for today
abrotmanheh
rahulwhat did I say?
ben1756rahul: that tools are all the same. I'm just trying to get the machine to boot. If you'd rather that I use a debian machine to operate, I can tell you that I've unplugged the drive and plugged it into one.
rahulben1756: I can boot debian and I have no idea what you're talking about
markybobwell, why stall any longer?
!based on debian
dpkgYou're not running Debian, but a distribution that uses the same package management system, but not the same packages. You can't use packages from Debian with Ubuntu, or packages from Mepis with Knoppix. That is why we cannot help you, you will need to visit the IRC channels of the respective distributions. See <Ubuntu> <Knoppix> <Kanotix> <Mepis>
rahulheh
fine then
ben1756uncalled for
Dewirahul: to be fair, would getting debian booting again really fall under knoppix support?
rahulben1756: yes, your off-topic question is uncalled for
Dewirahul: let's not just pass these things back and forth
rahulDewi: what is he talking about, then?
is debian not booting or is knoppix not booting?
stewrahul: he's trying to use knoppix to repair his broken debian.
ben1756Debian is not booting. Knoppix is the rescue ship.
rahulwhy is he fiddling with initrds?
stewben1756: are you just trying to rebuild the initrd or are you asking for help fixing luks?
rahuland what's luks?
stewrahul: a method of setting up cryptoloop
ben1756I'm not trying to do either. The initramfs has an incorrect value used by the cryptoloop premount scripts. I'm just trying to make a persistent change to that value so that my system will boot. Hence: I'm trying to mount the initrd rw so that I can do so.
rahulhmm, cramfs is not writable, is it?
he can't just mount it and change the file
ben1756I don't think that it's a cramfs.
I say initrd just because that's what the file was named
rahulnow I'm even more confused.
rolerI run dovecot. It looks like I have stupid bots attempting to brute force logins... After a while, dovecot quits. Is there a way to prevent it from quitting?
rahulroler: well... does it _say_ why it's quitting?
ben1756I may be mistaken- but I understood that initramfs and initrd were separate methods of booting the system
rahulroler: or is it just segfaulting because it has a buffer overflow or something?
ben1756: initrd stands for initial RAM disk
rolerFeb 25 19:50:25 fordmuscle dovecot: Login process died too early - shutting down
rahulor initialization or something
roler: strange. it shuts down the whole daemon because of that?
