chance2105XFCE in Etch seems to take a lot of resources on my box with modest RAM; right now I'm pretty extended out into swap. Gnome seems to not have this problem. The xfdesktop process in top shows VIRT 190m, RES 93m, and xfce4-menu-plug shows VIRT 177m and RES 92m.
dejand_ng?
valdynchance2105: what do these processes use when you restart them?
actionI-kido is gonna try XFCE soon...
I-kidois gonna try XFCE soon...
Thmscan I install debian on a already created EXT3 and SWAP partition ?
chance2105valdyn: I'm not sure. I just have so far noticed that after about two days of running xfce, I'm extended deeply into swap. When I first started looking yesterday, they were about 50m RES.
tuvchance2105, kill xfdesktop
chance2105, it's known to have a memory leak
valdynchance2105: report a bug that its leaking memory, look for existing bug reports about just that first
tuvvaldyn, it's a known bug upstream
valdyntuv: then it should be in the debian bts too
tuvThms, sure
Thmsso I can install debian on a extended partition in a logicall EXT3 and logical SWAP ?
chance2105valdyn: Alright. I suppose I'll blow out all of my xfce configs in my home directory (again) to take any riff-raff out, and then watch it for a proper submission.
But boy, that sucks. That kinda defeats the purpose of XFCE. It'd suck to have a whole Debian release with a heavily leaky XFCE.
tuvvaldyn, chance2105: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=376177
valdynchance2105: debian cant release with rc bugs. This may qualify
tuvchance2105, i run xfce without xfdesktop, and removed the xfce menu icon on the panel, and it's working fine ever since
undesktopusing "apt-cache search", how do I search for several keywords? so that both keywords must be included int eh result
valdyn'important'
vickCan i download winapi on debian ?
Harzileintuv: well, running xfce without xfdesktop is more like "running xfwm, xfpanel and xfsession", not "running xfce"
creatureundesktop: There may be a better way, but I often search for a word and pipe the results to grep to filter it down a bit more specifically.
undesktopcreature: yeah, it's also what I do
tuvHarzilein, it's not that essential.. you'll lose the menu-on-desktop-right-click, and the icons on the desktop. that's all
creatureYou may be able to fake it.
chance2105tuv: valdyn: thanks
creaturePipe the output from several keywords to a file, then sort and uniq the file, and then scrutinise the file...
undesktopcreature: "apt-cache search" accepts regular expressions... so it must be possible to require several keywords to match
Landrew<vick> Can i download winapi on debian ? ?
in general, that sounds scary spud
zeebleheyas. is there a beta/alpha debian netinstall iso, that incorporates the graphical/gtk based installer? or do i have to download one of the etch images?
LandrewWinMain Wine are some approaches
undesktopcreature: OH! dumb dumb me... apt-cache search can take several regex als arguments, and will AND them together
s/als/as
always thought it would OR them...
Roeyhi. Why is my jed editor all of a sudden showing tabs as ^I's ?
creatureundesktop: I though you were asking how to or them...
[baton]Hello, where can I find weekly cd builds?
undesktopcreature: hum... ORing them is easy... apt-cache search "foo1|foo2"
