Guerinznh: of course we do
znh: aptitude search headers
znhGuerin, which ends up in linux-kernel-headers which is not suiteable for kernel module purposes
haggzznh: I haven't been paying attention and have been in and out of the channel, but do you need the actual kernel source, not just the header files?
Guerinznh: in which case you're not running debian, since there should be linux-headers or kernel-headers packages corresponding to your (or at least some) kernel
enoufznh: the headers should be in /usr/src/*
AFAIK
znhGuerin, that's for Debian stable. Debian testing only has a linux-kernel-headers which are not suiteable for building kernel modules according to their Debian.README
haggz, probarly I do, since there are no kernel headers available for my running kernel, or atleast suiteable for building kernel modules
mazzanet'FATAL ERROR: Cannot open disk drive'
er...
crap?
tarzeaumazzanet: when you do what?
mazzanetopen cfdisk
enoufznh: grep -r .h /usr/src/
Redhattermazzanet, In other words, you need to hand your computer's robotic arm the right sort of screwdriver so that it can open the drive.
mazzaneti set my /home partition up as a raid1 array
Guerinznh: bollocks.
mazzanetall working fine until i rebooted
grub says error 15
Guerin!find linux-headers etch
dpkgDebian Package Listing of 'linux-headers' (11 of 24): linux-headers-2.6-486 ;; linux-headers-2.6-686 ;; linux-headers-2.6-686-bigmem ;; linux-headers-2.6-k7 ;; linux-headers-2.6-vserver-686 ;; linux-headers-2.6-vserver-k7 ;; linux-headers-2.6-xen-686 ;; linux-headers-2.6-xen-k7 ;; linux-headers-2.6-xen-vserver-686 ;; linux-headers-2.6.18-3 ;; linux-headers-2.6.18-3-486.
mazzanetproc shows both drives
Guerinznh: now search for `headers' again
mazzanetbut nothing can read them
harkthat's because you're looking at linux-kernel-headers
znh: try again
enoufwtf? .. how can you have and not have headers? wtf? .. ..."I have linux-kernel-headers installed which its files are located in /usr/include, but VMware thinks it's not suiteable for my running kernel.."
mazzanetoh i see
znhGuerin, well, it doesnt show up for me :)
mazzanetthe freaking debian cd uses /dev/ide/
enoufznh: cat /etc/debian_version
Guerinznh: then either a) you're not running debian or b) your sources a horribly b0rk3n
harkreally...
enoufmazzanet: forget /dev/ide
znhenouf, 4.0
mazzaneteh?
enoufznh: now cat /proc/version
bee?
mazzanet/dev/hd* don't exist
