ithiumdondelelcaro: I was running VNC yesterday and it seemed fine then - then today i started getting those errors, and so I reinstalled the host from scratch, but to no effect
dondelelcaroithium: and the vnc is running?
ithiumdondelelcaro: well, not when I try and create a VM, because it errors out...
dondelelcaroithium: but is it running before you try to create it?
ithiumdondelelcaro: however, it also is not in the process list before that either
dondelelcaroithium: well, that's most likely your problem.
squisherithium: define 'errors out'
ithiumdondelelcaro: I was under the impression that it got launched when required
fridimwhat's the procedure when the on which the /boot is failed ?
ithiumdondelelcaro: certainly yesterday when I set it up initially, all i noted down was to install vncserver, run vncpasswd, and then run vncserver
fridims/the on/the disk on/
dondelelcarofridim: there's no procedure, because /boot is on every drive.
fridimhow the hell is that possible ?
dondelelcarofridim: the machine continues to boot off of the next drive, and then when you fix the array, you create a new /boot on the new drive, and grubify it just like you would normally do
ithiumdondelelcaro: when I say "errors out", I mean that when i try to xm create, I get those python errors (apparently about the vnc...) so the VM never actually starts, which means the VNC never gets launched...
dondelelcarofridim: because you should have /boot as a raid0 in the first 50M or so of every drive in the array.
it's pretty straight forward, really.
Wyzarddondelelcaro: You mean raid1, not raid0
dondelelcaroyes, indeed.
s/raid0/raid1/;
Dewium... what is the second field in 'ls -l' ? I have *never* known.
squisherithium: I don't think I can help you, but noone else will either if you don't paste what the errors are. And not here, use a pastebin
!pastebin
dpkgit has been said that pastebin is a place to paste all your conf/debugs/logs for other people in the channel to view without flooding the channel. We suggest http://pastebin.ca or http://channels.debian.net/paste/, or if you want to upload an entire file, you can use http://pastebin.ca/upload.php, or or pipe your output to curl -i# -F 'code2=<-' -F poster=`whoami` -F paste=Send http://pastebin.com/pastebin.php | grep '^Loc'
dondelelcaroDewi: the link count
squisher: he already did; scroll up.
fridimbut I can't boot on raid1 ?
Wyzardfridim: You can have /boot on plain raid1, but not raid1 with LVM
dondelelcarofridim: of course you can.
Dewidondelelcaro: hmm... so for files, number of hard links, and for directories, number of links contained?
Wyzardfridim: nor on partitioned raid1, afaik
fridimok... I got it :)
Dewidondelelcaro: oh, no, it's not that. What does it mean for dirs?
squisherithium: oh sorry (see dondelelcaro)
dondelelcaroDewi: no, number of links to the dir.
Dewi: . and .. are links to directories.
squisherdondelelcaro: oh, was probably before the split, sorry
fridimso, two array, one for /boot, the other for the lvm
Dewidondelelcaro: is not the directory entry a link to it too? wouldn't that make 3?
