NY Lost Funds

karstenbwlang: Depends on what you've got. Care to budget me swapping out a few hundred v20zs / v40zs?
bwlang: ... oh yeah, with 12 - 128 GB RAM.
bintutthanks amphi..
karstenbwlang: ... OK, 128 GB *isn't* a v*z, but we provision 'em fat here.
bwlangno no no... i have no interest.... my biggest machines are about 32- 64G of ram... but with machine that expensive you can afford to buy fancy remote kvm stuff.
hatter128 Gb RAM ?
omg
google servers ?
karstenhatter: No.
hatter: Yeah, we ran into a problem with our default installer.
hatterlol
hmm
karstenhatter: ... it likes to provision 2xRAM as swap.
hatterhahahahaaa
karstenhatter: ... system only had a 70GB drive at the time.
hatternice ram drive....
karstenSolution: Remove 100 GB of RAM....
hatteromg
how is that ram supplied ?
bwlangon pallets ;)
Guerinhatter: dumptrucks
karstenhatter: In spades ;-)
hattermassive cards with banks ?
not in a race car ;)
Guerinmm, i want a game of cards
i wonder if we can scare up one more player
PupenoRis there anything like the net weasel card, but cheaper? 40% of the price of the server in that card is too much.
karstenhatter: That particular system was multiproc, possibly 8 procs w/ 16GB banks each.
PupenoR: I'm not sure they're even still in production. Page/site are dated 2001.
hatterkarstenL for what function ?
karstenPupenoR: Big news was providing a PCI (rather than ISA) model.
nevynhrm
karstenhatter: _not_ weather prediction.
PupenoRkarsten: yeah :(
hatterfox had a show recently on the earth simulator, the 2nd or 3rd largest supercomputer at the moment
geez
there;s a building the same size next to it.... that is the airconditioner
abrotmanPupenoR: serial console!
bwlangPupenoR: i use hacom boxes as firewalls at my remote sites... you could easily rig one to allow ssh access and serial line access to the real server.
PupenoRabrotman: what?
