holycowyou didn't pay $2000 dollars in the 80's so you could hack your mack
Zesturianjoin
rahulholycow: why not?
Zesturianjoin
holycowyou bought a cheap pc from parts and farted around because you could get dos for next to nothign and throw it on there
Azarthanks dondelecaro
kibathanks
rahulholycow: and then had nothing to hack, heh
at least the Mac had something there so you could hack it
holycowrahul, 2k in the 80's was a lot more than it is now, and people still don't pay 2k to hack a mac
ki11bi11thankyou dondelelcaro
rahulwell, macs are less hackable now
abrotmanholycow: people did do that
kibaI don't know why a lot of people think linux is hard to use
holycowrahul, well your spllitting hair, you had the money :) the point i'm making is that ms in th e80's was the 'open' choice so to speak
rahulMS wasn't open. it ran on random shit.
holycowabrotman, you need to introduce me to people who had 2k to blow on screwing up their box back then
rahulMacOS was more open
holycowthey must be worth more now :)
bokeykiba, it's more to do with click and run sort of applications that Gnu/Linux world lacks.
abrotmanholycow: poke around ..
holycowrahul, the architecture was open, ms came along for the ride and sold that as a feature
maddashi want to compile and run 2.6.19, but there is no debian patch for it. will i encounter any problems?
abrotmanholycow: they existed
rahulholycow: macs interoperated better with Unix and Lisp boxes.
holycowi don't doubt there were a few sure
rahulPCs had their own random proprietary standards
holycowprobably :)
rahulmacs used industry-standard interfaces.
ki11bi11also it has to be said that unix progams and even the unix operating systems were way toooo expensive, but alot of that has changed now;)
_kaiser_hello, I'm trying to modify the sudo PATH... I added my user to the sudo group so that sudo would then have the same PATH as the user, but this isn't working...any ideas?
