see?
stonedconcept10: I've got the leads in my head and I know what I'll do with it, but I've decided I can't keep booting windows everytime I need to record, as I've got stuff running on linux that I need. So I've decided to setup a debian based recording unit.
defcon8is there a non-free repo for amd64?
stewdefcon8: yes
defcon8stew, could you tell me what I need to add to my sources.list please?
stewdefcon8: where it says "main" make it say "main non-free"
stonedconcept10: now you _need_ (please =D ) to tell me all you know about recording and pref. debian packages but if I have to build something I guess I could
concept10: check out the track, its not as clean as I'd like but its something
defcon8W: Couldn't stat source package list http://ftp.uk.debian.org etch/non-free Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.uk.debian.org_debian_dists_etch_non-free_binary-amd64_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
concept10stoned, you need a multitrack app like ardour2 or even try jokosher
justinstoned: ardour, joshoker
khaleel5000Hi , I have debian etch ,I wanna modify the services that start on my system , I am following this how to,http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7393 but I dont seem to have chkconfig which package has it ?
stewdpkg: tell khaleel5000 about red hat tools
stonedconcept10: I need something I can push pedal tones with, like for following chord progressions's chord changes with pedal tones so I need some sort of a synth app for linux too
dkrkhaleel5000: chkconfig is a redhat thing. update-rc.d is the script debian uses to modify run levels for various ini scripts
khaleel5000stew: thannks very much
dkr: thanks
concept10stoned, I experiment with Linux music apps, but I never do music with them, the hassle is too great
dkrkhaleel5000: or you could simply aptitude remove package to stop it from running, :)
defcon8justin:/# apt-get install nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-3-amd64
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-3-amd64: Depends: nvidia-kernel-common (>= 20050829) but it is not installable
hmm?
stonedconcept10: well I've got a copy of fruity loops on windows, of course I can acquire whatever software need be aquired in order to accomplish what I set out to do
stew!info nvidia-kernel-common etch
dpkgnvidia-kernel-common: (NVIDIA binary kernel module common files), section contrib/x11, is optional. Version: 20051028+1 (etch), Packaged size: 4 kB, Installed size: 52 kB
justindefcon8: apt-get install nvidia-kernel-common
defcon8I tried
stewdefcon8: you need to add contrib as well
stonedconcept10: but booting to windows is an inconvenience in itself
defcon8it said it had no installation candidate
stew, thanks
concept10stoned, Nothings truly complete on Linux. You have to select what fits your purposes. Some programs have good audio (ardour2) some have MIDI (rosegrarden) but like I said, none are complete
stonedwell that sucks
hmm
concept10stoned, but im also a bystander, like I said, I never do music on Linux - but Im getting familiar with the apps
stonedI got windows xp working in Virtual Box
jelly-homeholycow: then umount, delete the partition, create it in the correct size, and create a new one with the rest
holycowwould be nice to to haveto do that
