hatterjmalicki: cool. thx.
jmalickihatter: tar -M... dunno if cpio is better or worse, i have no experience and can't comment
karstenFlimzy: Check for any fan blockage, etc., RTFM WRT your sensors config, find out what the normal operating range for the kit is.
FlimzyI had it sitting out of the server room where ambient is probably closer to 75F
and it was under another box when this first occured.
valdynFlimzy: k8temp can break cpu temperature readings ( its an amd64 specific sensor driver )
enoufkarsten: fwiw .. 90C is atrocious .. operating ranges are usually somewher between 35-60C
karstenFlimzy: < 90F ambient should be reasonable (if not great).
jelly-home92C is really high
like 160F
Flimzyright now, sitting in the server room (70F), and not in the rack, it's steady at 79C
enoufkarsten: for comfortability .. purring ;-)
Flimzy(according to ACPI)
jelly-home: What is a reasonable "high" value?
enoufFlimzy: aren;t you using a custom kernel?
Flimzyenouf: no.
valdynFlimzy: 79 is probably common for some cpus
enoufok .. nm Flimzy
Flimzyvaldyn: I'm sure it will get warmer once I put it back in the rack
enoufFlimzy: that was a diff time/issue IIRC :-P
Flimzyenouf: I usually use custom kernels... but not this time. hehe
jelly-homeFlimzy: no idea, probably depends on the CPU. For laptops I should go above 50-60C
enoufhah!
jelly-homeshouldn't
valdynmacbooks cpus get 80, thats not to bad
but 92... sounds to much
Flimzythis is a P4 2.4Ghz in a 1U case, for whatever that's worth. hehe
enoufoh boy
jelly-homevaldyn: you can burn your hand on that
valdynjelly-home: or your lap
SupaplexFlimzy: ask intel.com
