| rpc | it's cool, i use one |
| dromer | xingu: if only the floppy-drive worked ... then I would be rocking with my debian-laptop atm ;) |
| jelly-home | dromer: yeah. I wouldn't use the newest debian for that machine though, maybe 3.0 or even 2.2. something with a leaner kernel (2.2 or 2.4 series) |
| dromer | rpc: how much are they? I'd only need it for this one time really .. |
| rolandlakr | Well i'm going to be unmounting it.. I'm not booting FROM the partition, I have my home in it's own partition. |
| rpc | dromer i bought mine for $12 (in EU though, not sure about US) |
| Okita | Hey, does apt-get install to /usr/share on all distros? I need to make a postinst, and I need to know if using that as the directory is a safe assumptino |
| tarzeau | Okita: depends what kind of file you have |
| dromer | rpc: I'm in NL |
| pickcoder | tarzeau: what kind of sound levels are you recording? |
| tarzeau | Okita: and if it's not debian, it's off-topic here |
| rpc | dromer you should be able to get one for 10-15 euros |
| tarzeau | pickcoder: what's sound levels? analog instrument, piano |
| dromer | rpc: hmm, maybe an option. but I wouldn't know how to install to a usb-mounted hd .. |
| rpc | dromer it's no different from a regular drive mounted inside |
| dromer | ok |
| rpc | the usb thing is basically transparent |
| dromer | will look into it .. |
| rpc | such cable is very useful, mine can do both 2.5 and 3.5 drives > USB2 and it will save your ass once in a while ;) |
| xingu | mine is a rather natty ibm travelstar shell a gift from a friend who inherited a whole pallat of them |
| rpc | xingu oh i saw that one too |
| xingu | only for 2.5" hdd, but essential for rescuing failed notebooks ;) |
| rpc | wouldn't mind a pallet too :) |
| pickcoder | tarzeau: what type of mic are you using? |
| xingu | and no you don't want to build a storage array out of them before anyone asks |
| streuner | D0ug: what happens if you try to remove the package itself? |
| rpc | he he xingu |
| tarzeau | pickcoder: i don't know. how does it matter? the larger the better? i mean what can you recommend? |
| n3kl | No to kick a dead horse, but last night there was some talk in here acout virtualbox. I have been looking around a bit for it and I found a packge for debian, but I was wondering if there is perhaps a source that I am missing or something that I could add so that apt would find it. Anyone have any idea? |
| xingu | oh dear god, aren't we about all hypervisored out already? |
| pickcoder | tarzeau: there's more than one kind of mic and each has its strength and limitation. Also, how are you capturing from the mic? |
| tarzeau | pickcoder: microphone to line-in on computer? |
| pickcoder | ew |
| tarzeau | pickcoder: best to have the microphone hanging above the instrument? ew , sounds like bad idea |
| pickcoder | unless you're just playing around, don't use a $20 sound card to capture audio to be mastered |
| tarzeau | pickcoder: a mac powerbook laptop? |
