evil_stevesed and awk are tools taht allow you to made large scale changes to a file without editing it
ChrisGocould ask the host i guess iptables is firewall so if there is an exploit most likely your safe either way
for example i like to lock my firewall so somethign like mysql server is safer since its only accessed by localhost
heres nice simple example just remember to allow SSH :) http://myy.helia.fi/~karte/iptables_firewall.html
stexChrisGo: right. so installing APF and BFD should be enough right?
ChrisGosorry no clue what those are - coming from a windows world i feel you on updates + firewall is all I have to offer bro
stexChrisGo: thanks man. Is the script that you send me general enough and will it work with centos?
evil_stevestex: the default rules with Centos are suitable for pretty much most servers, you just have to poke holes in it, and that's a trivial matter if you can read a file :)
hax_brb
stexevil_steve: thanks.
is it a good idea to access the server through VNC?
evil_stevewith a very strong password and non-standard ports, yes
stexevil_steve: and connected through putty I guess
evil_steveum..how do you connect to VNC via putty?
stexmy host gave me 8 letters long passwords by default, does centos allow me to define kick ass password of 15 characters?
