ivazquezDid you reload httpd?

GD77if squid keep hot data cached in RAM does not that means on isp internet server the RAM should be more then 4GB ?
Cobrayou could swap it. disk will be faster than going back to the web.
GD77sorry still asking cause m reading about it and trying to figure things from what i ve seen on other servers and not personal experience
tommyI think every item in the disk cache has a small footprint in memory, it is quite a hog for ram, cannot comment on scalability, really only applied it to a home network situation
rangeOh, it's okay - but you should mount the partition with the cache on it with noatime. Otherwise the machine dies *writing* when your cache gets busy (updating atimes).
It's not that much of a memory hog. But you should use at least the squid from 4.5 (or the one from 3.6 upwards), as those allow you to open more filedescriptors than 1024.
GD77so an empty additionaly 40 to 160 GB hdd wont hurt
rangeAnd don't try to cache large data - that might give you a memory penalty.
GD77as far as I saw it is only mainly used for web pages caching
not data as it self like .avi .mov .wav ...
rangeHmmm. I had a cache size of ~10 GB in front of a webpage with ~40GB data. This was running squid as a reverse proxy.
GD77: Oh, it will if you allow it to :)
GD77yes m reading hehe
rangeweb site, that is, not one page :)
GD77it s self contained whizard the cache squid engine :D
ya i know i do webs too haha
all day was looking for squid manual then : man squid provieds squid-cache.org hehe makes you feel like n00bs u know
k poeple thanks again for the professinal help I ll go rest a bit need to fire the rendering again in a while :)
rangeThe FAQs in /usr/share/doc/squid/ are also very informative.
tommyanyone recommend a decent video card, inexpensive, I dont play games which is well supported agp 1.5v, doesn't need proprietary binary modules and is likely to have a support life expectancy greater than 5 years
it looks like ebay is the solution to my tdfx woes
ivazquezMatrox G400 or G450.
tommyty
|s|subsonicmy sysadmin is sick and he installed php5 without mysql. How can I install it with mysql?
I guess rebuild the .so
tommyI remember some dodgy matrox cards in the past which had to be regularly re-flashed
range|s|subsonic: Install php-mysql?
ivazquez: Are they still well supported within newer Xorg releases?
subsonicrange: Mysql is on the server. I'm just curious how to rebuild the phplib.so with support for mysql
rangesubsonic: Install php-mysql?
subsonicrange: Is that some download I can get?
rangeYes, that's the package name.
