| Zathrus | sed awk |
| zeeman | example: "blablabla 192 blablabla". regexp: [0-9]{1,3}. it should only output 192 |
| Zathrus | perl, python, or numerous others. |
| zeeman | sed or awk, what's fit better? it's only a very little script won't blow it up too much |
| Zathrus | probably awk. and note that this is a question better suited to ##linux |
| evil_steve | are the numbers always the second variable? or ##reg_exp_ate_my_sanity |
| zeeman | i want to extrat an ip from a long string there is only on ip in this string |
| Zathrus | evil_steve: regexps are your friend. |
| zeeman | the regexp isn't the problem... my problem is to choose the right program ;) |
| evil_steve | Zathrus: I'm not saying they're not. I'm just saying they ate my sanity |
| Zathrus | your sanity was weak! and is better replaced with a regexp anyway :) |
