| hax | ivazquez: glibc-2.3.4-2.25 |
| ivazquez | You installed the rpmforge-release package for RHEL4, right? rpm -q rpmforge-release |
| hax | ivazquez: rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf ivazquez: i just followed the centos4 directions on the wiki |
| ivazquez | Yeah, you took the wrong one. |
| hax | oh wait good call ivazquez: honest mistake :) ivazquez: awesome, it's a win |
| djtoast | toracat: Thanks I will test this.. great help :) |
| dtgorm | Maan, installed centos5 on a system that has been running centos4, and dang, eveyrthing is just slow.. even command line wget takes forever to do things.. anyone know if this is a bug with centos5 ? |
| joobie | hey guys.. how can i allow only ftp access for a paritcular account? like deny ssh access, etc.. just ftp? I changed the users shell to /bin/true but ftp then deosn't allow the user to login |
| dtgorm | im now running 2.6.18-8.el5 |
| evil_steve | DTGorm: do you have the correct entries in the /etc/hosts? if it can't resolve the hostname, things can get real slow |
| dtgorm | when i would install 4 before, it would install the 2.6.4-42.ELsmb but this time it didnt do smb... |
| evil_steve | joobie: the shell should be something like /bin/bash or /bin/sh |
| dtgorm | hosts is correct, but seems like everythign is slow system wide |
| evil_steve | smb or smp? |
| dtgorm | smp |
| joobie | evil_steve, if it's /bin/bash the user can login via SSH |
| dtgorm | err |
| evil_steve | joobie: which ftp software have you installed? |
| joobie | vsftpd |
| dtgorm | evil_steve: but ya mostly the network is extremely slow to respond |
| evil_steve | joobie: have a read of http://vsftpd.beasts.org/vsftpd_conf.html |
| dtgorm | same network settigns as before with the centos4 i swear my nix box is on a 14.4 modem make that a 9.6 baud modem |
| joobie | i have what am i looking for in there evil_steve ? i saw the option to disable looking at the shell type, but that's a bit insecure |
| evil_steve | DTGorm: does top show anything using too much CPU or ram? have you looked at process trees or anything? |
| dtgorm | not yet load average 0.02 i have done nothing out of the ordinary with the installation of centos5 so not sure why its being a pain.. i have a P4 w/ HT and 756 MB RAM to start a ping, takes like 15 seconds.. then its fine |
| evil_steve | joobie: did you, perchance, look at the option for "userlist_enable"? |
| dtgorm | tons of latency on initial connection seems like |
| evil_steve | cause, you know, that looks like it pretty neatly fits what you want to do |
