cannonballmlo: Transferring ISOs at gigabit speeds for us showed the 3ware to do much better rates.
ucfMethodmlo: I use RAID 10, so I dont care what the RAID5 or 6 performance is. I like the 3ware because of the monitor util, its top notch from what I've seen
namedriskcannonball thanks :)
cannonballnamedrisk: chkconfig --list mysql
daemonicpenguinthe 7xxx driver in the supplied kernels for 4 performed poorly. I grabber a newer kernel and it performed much, much better.
namedriskcannonball i did that it was all off
but it is on init.d
cannonballnamedrisk: that shows current settings. If you do a simple 'chkconfig --del mysql; chkconfig --add mysql', then the --list should show the default levels where it's on.
mlodaemonic: I'll have to look up my old bugzilla bugreport but I believe its been even in 3 that SCSI/3Ware were botched
ucfMethodoh yeah, cannonball, and as far as I can tell, even RHEL 5 / CENTOS wont have the 9650 in it as well
namedriskcannonball off still
ucfMethodi read we need 2.6.20 before 9650
cannonballucfMethod: good to know, thanks.
daemonicpenguinmlo: I think you're right. I was just getting terrible performance on... 2.6.9 I think... currently using a FC kernel... 2.6.12 and its running much more smoothly
ucfMethodI dont get why its hard to backport and module, but thats probably why im not a kernel dev
cannonballnamedrisk: ok, then I would chkconfig --level 345 mysql on
namedrisk: odd that it has them set to off though.
namedriskyeah that was what i tough since i just installed it
mlodaemonic: Found it. Filed it originally against Taroon (3) beta. It got apparently fixed in some errata, but I dont know for I switched jobs back then and didnt have to deal with the 3Wares since.
cannonballucfMethod: I'm looking at the 3ware page and it says that the 9650SE is supported in the 2.6.9-44.EL kernel. I dunno about at boot time, but it says that it's supported and gives a RH knowledgebase URL.
daemonicpenguinmlo: well, I appreciate you being on top of it. I'm not looking back. I'm hoping to be migrating all boxes to 5 sometime this week -- fingers crossed...
mlodaemonic: And I was asking how the 3wares are nowadays, so that I maybe can drop them from my blacklist :)
cannonballmlo: I think you should drop them from your blacklist. They are good for us.
peerceif I'm keeping a local rsync mirror of the centos mirrors, is there a particular hostname I should source from? currently, I'm picking an arbitrary mirror based on approximate geographical proximity or something.
cannonballpeerce: That's what most of us do I think.
robertehpony when centos 5
"pony when centos 5"
bronze_0_1soon
2-3 days
robertehthanks...
cannonballpeerce: I wish bt could be adapted to distribute ftp trees. bt is really good at small numbers of large files, but not so good at large numbers of small files.
_Steve_is cluster for RHEL5 out?
"cluster suite" even?
peercere: 3ware, thats a somewhat alarming issue in the mail list this past day or so re: latest firmware being optimized for "CIFS" and degrading ext3 performance
_Steve_and if so, is that going to be out on centos? if so, when?
i'm playing with cluster stuff right now, would be nice to have 5 stuff....
peercecannonball; its not so great for dynamic files, where some subset of files get periodically updatd/replaced
StevenR; yes, its built in. RH only bundles it with the AS or whatever
mloIs that an official 3Ware statement ?
_Steve_was that for me?
