daemonicpenguini think it would depend on the repo and not yum itself
cluster-awayThe a specific 'yum install mysql-server.version'
cannonballnamedrisk: If you understand the consequences, add '--enablerepo=centosplus' to your yum commandline.
cluster-awayIf others are listed
cannonballnamedrisk: warning, if you have php-mysql installed, it will also pull in the new php as well.
Evolutionnamedrisk: yum --enablerepo centosplus install mysql
yeah, what cannonball said.
namedriski just did that worked fine thanks
cannonball no i dont this is other srever that is clean
jsharpernamerdisk: i don't understand your comment about not having two servers?
namedriskjsharper you told me to use separeted servers for that
cannonballI've not been able to find anything that authoritatively says yes or no. Shouldn't CentOS 4.4 be able to recognize and load the module for a 3Ware 9650? (8 port SATA RAID, true hardware RAID, not the fakeraid from Promise or HighPoint)
namedriskdo i still need to set it up on the chkconfig ?
streami use 3ware 9500 w/ centos4.4
cannonballIt supports the onboard SATA controller (BIOS is mapping it to look like a regular IDE drive I think).
stream: No problem installing?
stream9500S-8MI
nope
it shows up as a sda drive
cannonballI am doing this on a SuperMicro X7DB3 server mobo. It shows it in the BIOS, but when CentOS does its detection, it doesn't load a module for it.
I'll swear that before I did a BIOS update on the mobo that it worked properly (BIOS update was to fix a 50 second pause between power on and something appearing on the monitor...that's not a typo, 50 seconds)
But I won't say with 100% certainty that is the case.
Maybe reseating the card will do something.
ucfMethodcannonball: 9650 is not included in CentOS 4.4
I know, I have that same card, the 16 port version
cannonballOh. Crap. I thought the 9xxx would cover it.
ucfMethodthere are modules you can download and load just fine
cannonballOk, will do. Thanks.
ucfMethodbut booting from it is tricky
would probably have to mkinitrd to fix it
cannonballWe plan on booting from a standalone SATA drive anyway, so it's going to be ok.
mloAre those 3Ware cards any good nowadays ? My results back then with the 7xxx PATA cards were, lets say, mixed...
streamit works great for me
ucfMethodcool, then you are fine. 3ware site is a pain to locate things, let me know if you need the kernel mods
streamvery fast
ucfMethodfast for me, and i love the daemon util
cannonballWork fantastic for us in the machines we have htem.
namedriskwhat runlvls should i scale mysqld to run over chkconfig ? 345 ?
mlohave you benchmarked the hardware Raid5 vs. software ? That really cleaned their clock back then, even with the expensive "raid5 optimized" extra-cache model they had
cannonballnamedrisk: it's specified for you in the init file, unless you're trying to override them.
