| Evolution | DT____: I doubt it, we're a similar size. just (on average) a smarter userbase. guma: 3ware should have driver disks available, assuming the built in driver doesn't work. |
| LeddyHM | mmm 3ware |
| Evolution | guma: if you need to make one of your own, I'd start with one they've got already and use this tutorial -> http://www.arrfab.net/?topic=tutorials&id=centosdd. |
| guma | Evolution: Nop the builtin did not work. It is 9650SE.And 4.4 did not detected it |
| DT____ | What sucks is when I do ask 'legit' questions in here I never seem to get a response.. :\ First time someone has responded to me is when I apparently ask the wrong one. And then I get multiple people. |
| guma | what dile format does the driver floopy be? Fat, Fat32, ext, raw? I got zip and tgz files from 3ware I see that CentOS 5 has 9650SE 3ware driver in it. Is CentOS binary compatible with CentOS 4.4? I mean if I install 3rd party libs that were build on RH4 U4 on CentOS 5 and build my program against them will it work? |
| Alystair | :O 3ware :O~ |
| Evolution | guma: no, not really. centos4 uses a very different kernel from centos5 guma: if you wait a couple days centos5 will be out. |
| guma | So the list from RH4 will not work on CentOS 5. Tahti what you are saying? If that is the case. I have to go with 4.4 |
| Evolution | guma: packages built on RHEL4 will be built against differing versions of libraries and such. they *may* work, but it's not really recommended to use them on centos5. |
| guma | ok |
| Evolution | RHEL5 things will work interchangeably with centos5. |
| guma | Evolution: Do you know how to make floppy disk from zip or tgz file that I got from 3ware site? |
| Evolution | guma: did you see the link I posted earlier? it has instructions for doing this. |
| guma | nop. sorry |
| Evolution | guma: if you need to make one of your own, I'd start with one they've got already and use this tutorial -> http://www.arrfab.net/?topic=tutorials&id=centosdd. that url should get you what you want |
| guma | Evolution: This is show how to modify the driver contents. I am just talking about making a floppy? can I just rawrite the tgz file to floppy? Of the floppy needs to be formated first ext, fat? |
| Evolution | guma: no. you can't do that. |
| guma | dd |
| Evolution | the tgz is a compressed image, probably of the source, though they may have a driver disk .img in there |
| guma | let me se if they have img. If they do I guess dd as stated in the link you send me |
| Evolution | I could swear 3ware has the dd already on their site. |
| guma | Evolution: There is no img file in there http://www.3ware.com/support/download_9.4.1.asp |
| braddeicide | Aww, its not april 9th yet someone needs to sneak the developers calanders forward :) |
| guma | Is there a way to use kickstart file when installing another box? How do you use it ? |
| jsharper | guma: neither centos 4.4 nor centos5 have native support for the 3ware 9650se however, 3ware provides a driver disk for both 4.4 and 5 its an img file |
