| stup_guy23e | Hi All! May I know... CentOS Server CD is text-based interface? I choose Graphical User Interface during the installation But after installation done, the system restart, the system is run in text mode How to go in graphical mode? |
| helfrez | not available on servercd you will need to install a graphical environment, as the servercd does not come with one |
| Gomer221_ | lol, I was just battling the same issue myself today. |
| helfrez | the environment are available to install from the standard media 4cd set or DVD centos is pretty good with picking defaults and using the dialog to configure stuff you should be able to yum groupinstall the X environment and the desktop environment and get up and running |
| stup_guy23e | So I have to re-install using the 4cd in order to run graphical interface? |
| helfrez | no see previous message |
| CCFreak2K | <helfrez> you should be able to yum groupinstall the X environment and the desktop environment and get up and running |
| stup_guy23e | erm... I'm now logged in to the CentOS [root@localhost ~]# what to type ? |
| helfrez | if you are comfortable with X configuration (in the event defaults dont work) go with groupinstall...if you are not, then I would recommend a cd or dvd reinstall |
| stup_guy23e | Sorry, I don't know how to use linux in text base |
| helfrez | then you want to use the cds and do a upgrade or reinstall |
| stup_guy23e | the 4cds CentOS is suitable to use as a web server? |
| helfrez | if something goes wrong and you arent confortable with command line, it will just leave a bad taste in your mouth its the same packages, servercd is just a scaled down package set they put together for people that dont need guis saves time and only 1cd to carry |
| stup_guy23e | I see. Thanks a lot! |
| helfrez | the 4cdsset or dvd comes with your choice of graphical desktop at install time np enjoy |
| CCFreak2K | The radeon Xorg driver should in theory work with any Radeon card, right? |
| stup_guy23e | Our web server will run in Java environment, which packages should I install? |
| helfrez | generally speaking yes |
| CCFreak2K | I guess I'll have to spend more time dicking with xorg.conf. |
| helfrez | ati driver will sub in when radeon doesnt work you can try that one instead there are some cards that wont work with that older versions of radeon without a little luv |
| CCFreak2K | It's a fairly recent card. It's not listed in the radeon card listing in the xorg log (newest listed in log is R423, mine is R430). |
| helfrez | stup_guy23e, depends on what your environment requires, you will want to check your documentation and get a good idea of the software requirements before diving in stup_guy23e, it will save you alot of pain and suffering down the road to do some prep and research beforehand 7P's to success Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance 6rather |
