sweetnsourbkrMrMeoff: can you paste your /etc/sysconfig/network file?
MrMeoffi had this problem once, but someone in here helped me fix it, i forgot the solution unfortunate
nushtodoes anyone know how I would go about installing firefox on centos 3.8 (I'm rather unfamiliar with yum)
MrMeoffwell, its a box next to me, so i can type what i can
there's two lines:
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain
jbtMrMeoff: then add GATEWAY=your.gateway.ip
sweetnsourbkrwhat about /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and eth1?
aflury_he should be able to ping his default gateway without the GATEWAY setting.
just for fun, /sbin/arp -d 192.168.1.1
nushtois it a stupid idea to just grab the firefox RPM directly off the centos website and just run an rpm -i?
sweetnsourbkrhe might wanna try putting the GATEWAY in there just in case
jbtnushto: that's fine
MrMeoffi tried putting in the GATEWAY setting, no effect
aflury_putting GATEWAY in wouldn't hurt.
nushtojbt: does that mess anything up with yum>
MrMeoffdo i need to restart it?
jbtservice network restart will do the job
aflury_MrMeoff: how about ping -n 192.168.1.1?
MrMeoffok, trying
aflury_then GATEWAY should have absolutely no effect.
sweetnsourbkri'm curious as to what your ifcfg-ethX files say
aflury_or just a freakin ifconfig -a & netstat -rn
sweetnsourbkryea
MrMeoffim more trying to get it to see eth1 too, how can i make it do that?
sweetnsourbkrifconfig eth1 up
MrMeoffim plugging the wires from one port to another seeing if its detecting one port over the other as eth0
shouldnt system-config-network detect eth1/eth0 and let me select which one i want to configure?
aflury_I dunno what you mean by "see eth1"
eth0/eth1 shouldn't change.
that depends on which the kernel detects first, not which is plugged in.
MrMeoffmy memory must be burnt or something
lol
sweetnsourbkrthe stuff in your head or the stuff in your comp?
aflury_haha... I was thinking the exact same thing.
MrMeoffdmesg gives me eth0: no IPv6 routers present
the stuff in my head :)
aflury_I doubt that you expect an IPv6 router.
sweetnsourbkrmore reason to go take a nap
