jennamdid you have multiple instances of rsync running?
thecoolone19just did rsync from source to destination
jennamdid it get interrupted at any point?
thecoolone19yeah maybe once before
it got interuppted once
jennamdo a search for . files
like .filename.funnyextn
thecoolone19what ?
jennamit might have partial files.
thecoolone19find -name "*.*" ?
jennamWell that will find all files
thecoolone19for comparison i checked two folders the size are 20 MB and 36MB (dest) but the number of files are same in each folder...
jennamthen find which files are bigger
use ls -lah <dir> on each server and stick results into two files then run diff on them
thecoolone19jennam: i checked the folder and all the files are of the same size and there werent any .somename.somextension files
jennamhow is that possible lol
thecoolone19lol i dont know
im myself suprised
could the reason be the minimum filetype size allocation on the destination filesystem.. like for images 16kb is reserved of something like that ?
the souce is 2.7GB and destination is 3.4GB so that a huge waste of space
jennamWell are there thousands of files?
thecoolone19yeah
jennamit SHOULD still reflect on the file sizes though
thecoolone19maybe arnd 50,000 files
jennameven if it was a filesystem issue
peerceum, du shows disk usage by default, not file sizes
jennamWhen did you see "du" shown :)
peercespecify --apparent-size if you want 'file size'
thecoolone19how to count the number of files in a directory
peercels -1 | wc -l
thecoolone19lol this is crazy now.... :( the number of files also are the same
and each file size is also same
peercetry `du -hs --apparent-size`
thecoolone19only the directory size is varying
peerceoh, ls -1a to show ALL files, including .hidden ones
thecoolone19lol SAME thing again :(
jennamwhat about ls -R1a | wc -l
thecoolone19du -hs --apparent-size gives same output :0
ls -R1a | wc -l also is the same
