peerceknopix; I also saw some references to misconfigured broadcast or netmask in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*
knopixpeerce: i'm not using cable modem
it's about named
kernel: Neighbour table overflow <-- named
peerceeverything I saw said that was the ARP table overflowing.
do an `arp` command as root. does it list more than just a couple addresses ?
named is user space, not kernel.
knopixok.. im sorry , im wrong
peerce: when i did arp, it's display a lot of address
i did some corrections like on http://www.gnulinuxclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=333&Itemid=49
but the log still come out
peerceknopix; are you on a network segment with a lot of hosts? whats the netmask on your LAN ?
knopixya
peerceoh. try, arp | wc -l
that will list the total number of arps (+ 1)
knopixit's not display anything
peercealso, does this system have multiple network interfaces? is it acting as a firewall, or as a router ?
knopixyup
3 nic
and it's acting as firewall and gateway
peerceok, on that `arp` command.... note the interface, eth0, eth1, etc2 ... are the bulk of those arps from a specific one of those interfaces
knopixeth0 -> 47 clients
eth1 -> 6 clients
eth2 --> for link to internet
peerceso eth2 only has a single arp for the router?
knopixya
peerce47 and 6, thats based on arp's output, are on the actual number of clients you know exist ?
knopixactual number for clientsd
actual number for clients
peerceok, arp -i eth0 | wc -l
and, arp -i eth1 | wc -l
each of those should print out a single number
also, do arp -i eth2
it should print out one line
knopixeth0 and eth1 already done
eth2 for link to internet
so , it will recover many arps
peerceno, link to internet -should- only have ONE arp for your ISP's gateway router
knopixuntil now the number is not come out yet
peercewhat sort of internet connection are you on?
