Dyson_digix: with your logic, we would have to compiling *every* scsi-hostadapter driver in
range*the

BlackArrowhi
tioanhello
BlackArrowI'm a new linux user. I've just installend centos server. May anyone tell me how to start the xwindows gui?
orc_orcBlackArrow: good news -- we publish full doco for new Linux uwers at http://www.centos.org/docs/4/
as root, type: telinit 6,
peerceer, 5?
6 is reboot :D
orc_orcah., yes
digixok, so i guess i have my initrd screwed up then...
orc_orcpeerce: is correct of course
BlackArrowthanks orc_orc, i'm going to take a look at the documentation
digixnot quite sure how it would be screwed up though, since it added the new line on its own when i installed the plus kernel
alleycatI hardly doubt that telinit 5 will be useful in a a centos server installation
but then again, I might be wrong
orc_orcBlackArrow: also, assuming the xfs is running, a simple startx will work, but you as root will probably need to do: system-config-display first
Arrfaballeycat : right ... maybe the first thing to ask is 'have you installed X at least' .. but reading the doc is always a good thing anyway ...:)
aic_initdefault:6
BlackArrowI did an all-feature server install. Now, I did the yum upgrade and I'm still waiting for it to finish. I'll try the startx as soon as the yum finish.
Dyson_errm...
sorry to tell you, but yum upgrade won't install X
it only upgrades the system's currently installed packages to the recent revisions
BlackArrowyes, I already installed X in the installation.
Dyson_ok :)
BlackArrowI'm only upgrading now :)
startx seems to work but I receive a failed to set up write-combining range error
digixso, im not sure i understand... but why would my initrd be messed up when it was all configured, etc by yum through the centosplus kernel installation?
orc_orcBlackArrow: as root please run: /sbin/service xfs restart
then retry
BlackArrowi did it, but the same error occoured
orc_orcdigix we really don't troubleshoot custom kernel issues here
digixcentosplus is a "custom" kernel?? lol
orc_orcBlackArrow: I cannot see your screen as my fortune telling crystal ball broke -- pastebin.ca is a frien for you
friend
BlackArrowok
rangedigix: No idea what you did - the centosplus initrd works just fine here.
digixi started from a stock x86_64 install, added the repo, and then installed the kernel... thats it... when i try to boot from the new kernel, it errors with error 6 mounting ext3
orc_orcdigix: scsi hardware, or software raid in play?
