| aarcane | delaney, you can just pacman -Sf then, or delete them. if those are the only errors. |
| delaney | delete the files u mean? |
| aarcane | yeah |
| delaney | .xinitrc and .xsession? |
| aarcane | yeah |
| Sacro | >< pacman -Sf would be a better idea |
| aarcane | I agree with Sacro, but do what's more comfortable to you. |
| vitalstatistix | acpi doesn't seem to show lid open on my laptop using hal 0.5.8, anyone here see the same issue? |
| delaney | Sacro: already did the rm :( |
| aarcane | vitalstatistix, I don't think acpi shows lid open events period. on my laptop, it showed a lid event, and I had to poll the lid device to see if it opened or closed. delaney, it doesn't matter much. try the install now. |
| delaney | yeah the install worked.. openbox went in firefox now installing |
| vitalstatistix | aarcane, so does acpi_listen show two lid events when you close and open your lid successively? |
| aarcane | vitalstatistix, I don't know. I know acpid triggered two events though, but they were identical. |
| delaney | hrm.. ati module does not exist |
| vitalstatistix | aarcane, are you running the standard arch kernel? |
| aarcane | vitalstatistix, standard, then -mm. I'ven't got the laptop anymore though. |
| Sacro | delaney: xf86-video-ati ? |
| delaney | killer... thx. |
| vitalstatistix | aarcane, I see: I only get one lid event (when I close the lid) no open lid event - quite strange aarcane, thanks thought |
| aarcane | vitalstatistix, try leaving it closed for a few moments then open it. delaney, once you set up your .xinitrc or .xsession file, and either startx or /etc/rc.d/gdm start, you should be ready to hit firefox. |
| vitalstatistix | aarcane, I have tried that as well |
| aarcane | vitalstatistix, google for your laptop model, and see if other users of the same or similar models have the same issue. |
| delaney | yeah.. the .xinitrc and .xsession are the things im concerned with now any other distros ive used didnt seem to require it but im sure i can figure something out |
| vitalstatistix | aarcane, a simple cat of the /proc/acpi lid path shows that it's open thought |
| delaney | im sure pacman -S lynx might help me find some stuff so i wont be too much of a pest. |
| vitalstatistix | aarcane, this could be due to hal/acpi issue since it worked before |
| aarcane | delaney, try just placing the line "exec openbox" or whatever the command to start openbox is in your .xinitrc and then type "chmod +x .xinitrc" then startx |
| delaney | awesome. im gonna grab pypanel and stuff too i guess |
| aarcane | delaney, get your X working first, then customize it :) delaney, get this, you don't even need an xorg.conf most of the time~ |
| delaney | okay.. i have openbox running. fonts are CRAZY small and i really need to get xorg.conf setup so that i can have proper fonts etc. but its running. |
| aarcane | delaney, you can use firefox to do that though~ |
