shiningben_m: what are you using?
ben_mradeon
glxgears works fine I think
shiningben_m: that's the open driver
ben_mI know.
I thought he meant something different.
Hennihttp://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/ATIRadeon#head-5ef8508ce5c9cc711eba4118f52f2c9feb0ab064
ben_mglxinfo works fine too
Henni: thanks
xarragonben_m: Yeah, instead of nvidias proprietary drivers I can use the 'nv' driver, which is open source.
ben_meven direct rendering
:D
xarragonben_m: However, I'm not really sure about 3d acceleration...
Hennixarragon: nv doesn't have 3D Acceleration - but the radeon does
shiningThe Radeon 9100 is a rerelease of the Radeon 8500
:o
how old is that?
xarragonHenni: Really? That sounds like the perfect solution for ben_m then.
shiningxarragon: accel for old radeon cards should work just fine
xarragon: for newer cards, it's more unstable, but still usable
ben_mI have no idea what you're talking about.
shiningand for the last ones, I think it's not possible, but I'm not up to date :d
xarragonHenni: Do you need to change anything besides the xorg driver entry for it to work?
shiningben_m: so glxgears is the only gl program that run ? everything else just fails ? :o
ben_mnah
shiningxarragon: it's there by default afaik
Hennixarragon: Load "dri" and Load "glx" have to be in the 'Section "Module"'
ben_mIt's just freezing when I do something with opengl
like, when I try to rotate in blender it freezes.
:)
shiningben_m: odd
ben_myeh
Henniand /dev/dri/* must have the correct permissions
xarragonben_m: What drivers are you using now?
shiningben_m: so that chip is a rerelease of an older card, but is it recent?
Henni(if the user is in the video group it should be just fine)
ben_mxarragon: radeon
xarragonHenni: Okay, thanks for the tip. Nvidia typically requires installation of a custom glx library.
ben_m: Yeha, but did you get them from radeons website?
ben_mnah
