pctonyapache wil lnot run without it
lamparreyder: well, yes. Apache docs are good but they tend to require some amount of knowledge. I'm not sure of easier (and good) guides for beginners, usually those 1-2-3 guides don't give exactly the best advices
arreyderhmm, maybe some annotations to the main docs... for the truly green?
shad0w1ehey I need some help getting my htaccess file working. its supposed to deny from all but it isnt doing that!
thumbsgarbage
fajitatry putting junk in your htaccess file. If it's being read, you will get an Internal Server Error when accessing that resource.
thumbsshad0w1e: ^^
shad0w1efile ismply reads: order deny,allow

Keith_pctony: So what do i do, I just used the installer - should I make a error.log?

Keith_sp2
fajitasp2 is Na Good Thing. The best security measure MS has taken in their entire lifetime.
shad0w1eok I guess this means file is not being read.
pctonyand when you try to start it, where do you get that error message?
RprpHmm, I try to start apache i see this error: 'Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80' <-- How can i fix that ?
thumbsallowoverride none
fajitaAllowOverride None means "Please ignore my htaccess files." and is the default setting. or See http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/apache/2003/12/04/apacheckbk.html
shad0w1ewhy would it not be read? perms are -rw-r--r-- 1 root root
pctonyRprp: port is in use already
Keith_pctony: start the server I get it in a error dioalog box
thumbsshad0w1e: ^^
shad0w1eah
it is like that, what do i change it to?
Rprppctony: i know, But how can i see what is listened on port 80 ?
Or better, How can i kill it
thumbsshad0w1e: read the factoid to find out.
pctonyRprp: what platofrm?
Rprppctony: Debian
fajitaDebian is one of the worst offender see "debian config" see "distro layout" see /usr/share/doc/apache*/README.Debian* or http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/Platform/DebianLike
Keith_??
pctonynetstat
fajitanetstat prints network connections, routing tables, interface statistics, masquerade connections, and multicast memberships. Use netstat -an grep -w 80 to check if port 80 is in use. (On linux, you can use netstat -pan to see which program uses the port.) (For Windows use -ano to show the state, PID, and connection in IP not name format.)
shad0w1ehah this is funny
