Tixerwhere do you set HTaccess rules?
thumbsTixer: your question was not clear enough. Reformulate.
FordCortinathumbs: i found the problem, i hadn't put a require directive
thumbsFordCortina: OK.
FordCortinathanks
TixerOn my old WAMP server, you used to have to specify which folders you were placing .htaccess files in, and the details
that was in the httpd.conf file
thumbss/folder/directory/
Tixer: what do you want to put in your htaccess files, exactly?
TixerI need to keep people out
I have it all set up on an HDD....
thumbs'keep people out' ?
Tixeryes
thumbsdo you mean making a directory password-protected?
or denying access?
Tixer^^
dir protected
thumbsauth
fajitahttp://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/howto/auth.html look at http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/Recipes/PasswordBasicAuth for some basic examples!
thumbshtaccess purpose
fajitaDon't confuse htaccess with password-protection. The purpose of htaccess is to enable users to configure apache locally for their own directories, when they have no privilege to do so in httpd.conf. Using htaccess slows the server. Also rewriterules and redirects are more complex in htaccess
TixerI've got that set up
thumbsTixer: read those
Tixerhang on
thumbsdo NOT use htaccess if you have access to the main config files.
TixerIf I find the examples, this would eb easier
thumbsauth
fajitahttp://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/howto/auth.html look at http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/Recipes/PasswordBasicAuth for some basic examples!
thumbsthere are examples there.
TixerI just changed docroot, and now my webserver just killed itself
thumbsperhaps it hates you
Tixerprobably
fajitaprobably is the same as 'definitely not' when dealing with important or critical applications - if you're not sure, don't let 'probably' suffice
thumbsmost likely, the error log has a more logical explanation.
TixerI moved the log files...
thumbsum...
Tixerand it didn't create them in the new directory
thumbsthen restart apache.
TixerI did
thumbsthen you didn't defined the errorlog directive properly.
